General Production Information

  • 4 million-plus container plants in sizes from 1 to 15 gallons are produced annually.
  • 6 million liners are produced annually.
  • Stewardship of natural resources is a top priority for McCorkle Nurseries. Most run-off is reclaimed in 17 ponds.
  • During peak demand, Luckey's Bridge Farm requires 3 to 4 million gallons of water per day to irrigate its crops.
  • The majority of water used for irrigation is reclaimed run-off from production areas. Multiple pumping systems support irrigation requirements, including Neals Mill main pumping station, which is powered by three 75 horsepower turbine pumps capable of displacing up to 3,000 gallons per minute. All water from this system is treated and filtered and can be injected with liquid fertilizer.
  • Integrated Pest Management is used to control pests and diseases.

  About McCorkle Nurseries, Inc.

When C.S. and Avice McCorkle began their family business in 1942, they offered a one-stop retail, landscape and growing operation to the developing community around Augusta, Georgia. The post-World War II housing boom would propel that business to its initial leadership in the local market.

In 1977, the next generation of the McCorkle family focused the enterprise toward its current configuration. C.S. and Avice's sons, Don and Jack McCorkle, sold the retail operation and turned their attention to expanding the 5-acre landscape and growing operation.

Three of the McCorkle grandchildren now play active roles in the family business. In 1997, Don's son, Skeetter, assumed the position of CEO, while Jack's son, Chris, was named Vice President of Operations of the Luckey's Bridge and Neals Mill Farms. Skeetter's sister, Beverly, is also an active participant on the McCorkle team.

In addition to the Growing Operations and Customer Service Center, based in Dearing, GA, the Sales and Marketing Department operates an office in metro Atlanta.

Each year, more than 4 million plants are marketed from McCorkle Nurseries' growing operation, with delivery to over 1,800 customers in the southeastern and mid-Atlantic states.

McCorkle Nurseries, Inc. is committed to continual growth in producing and marketing quality plants while protecting and improving the environment. All the 225-350 employees of McCorkle Nurseries exemplify its motto:

"Quality First, Service Always."
