The second generation of
the McCorkle family business focused the enterprise toward its current
configuration. In 1977, a pair of former employees bought the retail
operation allowing sons Don and Jack to focus individual responsibility on
the landscape and growing operations. At that time, the company relocated the
business to the site of the growing operation in Dearing, thirty miles west
of Augusta. Don managed the Landscape Division while Jack worked to expand
the original five-acre growing operation. Three of the McCorkle
grandchildren have chosen an active role in the family business. In 1997,
Don's son, Skeetter assumed the position of CEO while Jack’s son, Chris, was
named General Manager of the Luckey’s Bridge and Neal Mill Farms. Skeetter's
sister, Beverly, is also an active participant on the McCorkle team. McCorkle Nurseries Sales
and Marketing Department operates offices in Dearing, and Atlanta, Georgia
and in Marion, North Carolina. A
sales and distribution operation is located in Mobile, Alabama.
McCorkle Nurseries
markets more than 4 million plants annually from its growing operation
delivering to over 1,800 customers in the southeastern and mid-atlantic
states. The growing operation consists of a 700-acre farm of which 400 is
currently in production.
